Bowen is a gentle,
relaxing and non-intrusive form of manual therapy. It uses just fingers
and thumbs over certain parts of the body, where rolling type moves
are made over muscle, tendon and ligament.
The technique is holistic
in that it treats the body as a whole. It allows the body an opportunity
to restore structural integrity by rebalancing energy in lines of
stress throughout the body, the energy being kinetic, potential and
chemical. In short Bowen rebalances then stimulates the body into
healing itself.
Tom Bowen, an Australian
from Geelong developed the treatment in the 60’s in an effort originally
to help his wife’s asthma. By the mid 70’s Tom was treating several
thousand people a year. He taught what he knew to just six people,
and it is from those individuals that Bowen has spread throughout
the world.
